The Internet is a great place to shop for miscellaneous items, but if you want to travel using the web it can become very difficult. This is what one man had to say about booking reservations over the Internet.

Last week I used a travel Web site to buy a round-trip ticket from San Francisco to Charlottesville, Virginia. The site negotiated my round-trip itinerary with a total of six flights (Charlottesville isn't a popular destination from San Francisco), confirmed my reservation, and then offered me a choice of seats for each flight. A Java applet started loading in my browser (Netscape Communicator 4.05/Windows 95). Immediately, a Java error popped up. I guessed that this was a browser-compatibility problem, so I backed out of the page, made the reservation without choosing seats, and fired up Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01, I picked my first flight in the applet and began picking seats. The applet returned a message stating that seat information wasn't available for this flight and offered me a chance to pick seats for the next flight. OK. So I had unassigned seats for this flight but could reserve seats for the next flights. Uh-huh. Foiled again! Seat information wasn't available for flights 2, 3, or 4 eith er, but I could pick seats for flights 5 and 6. I picked my seats for flights 5 and 6 and clicked Continue. JavaScript error! Ergh. Losing faith ... this error message told me that I hadn't chosen seats for all of my flights and that I couldn't continue until I chose seats for all of them. Good googamooga! I love buying things online because it's convenient, but this shopping spree was becoming exasperating and inconvenient - and on a site that usually works perfectly for me. The Help section didn't include any information about how to choose seats for fewer than all of my six flights. All I could do was cancel the seats I had picked and purchase the tickets without choosing seats.
